Signs and Symptoms to Look Into Orthokeratology

With contact lens discomfort (CLD), there are some things to watch out for. Ortho-K treatment can help. Two of the most common signs of CLD is corneal edema and staining, according to Review of Cornea and Contact Lenses.  Researchers say that tearing in the eye, soreness, red coloration, irritation, discharges, abrasion of the eyes and a distorted view are symptoms in which CLD and other problems can be treated with this type of treatment. Astigmatism is defined by a defect in your eye or contact lens marked by spherical curves that cause some deviation. This creates a distortion of images because rays of light can’t meet at a common focus point thus, making it hard for you to see. The Ortho-K treatment can help you recover from this problem. Myopia means you suffer from nearsightedness. Hyperopia, the opposite, is farsightedness. The treatment will also help these problems for you.

Diagnosis and Treatment

The process of orthokeratology wasn't really perfected to any degree until the 1980s. Computer technology in the 1990s led to the innovations in shaping lenses that have created the level of accuracy and replicability of today's lenses, which are much more advanced and affordable. Orthokeratology is also known by the terms Ortho-K, Overnight Vision Correction, Corneal Refractive Therapy and CRT. The process creates contact lenses that are gas permeable, which allows them to temporarily reshaped your cornea. This treatment can be an alternative to glasses, refractive surgery or the elimination of wearing contact lenses. This method is preferred over other methods for dealing with myopia, hyperopia, CLD, and astigmatism. It has become much more affordable and accurate since its development. Many people prefer to avoid wearing contacts or glasses and this may be the best way to do just that.
